North Dallas Shared Ministries

The parishioners of Holy Trinity have been  members of this ministry since we moved into our facility at Hillcrest and Alpha in 1992.  We are joined by 46 other area congregations (Christian, Jewish, Hindu, etc), who originally banded together because they could accomplish more to serve the Dallas community together rather than individually.  The mission of  North Dallas Shared Ministries has three important principles:  to provide assistance for persons in need (in particular, the working poor), to promote a sense of self-respect and responsibility, and to work with other organizations to respond to conditions of human need.

The Ministry provides food, clothing, financial assistance in the form of rent and utility assistance, job counseling, free ESL classes, a Medical Clinic which provides inoculations, help with prescriptions, a physical exam and referral system for medical needs; a Women’s Clinic for pap smears and mammograms, Dermatological clinic, podiatry services; and a free Dental Clinic for extractions and referrals for other services.  The Medical Clinic is staffed totally by volunteer doctors and nurses, as is the Dental Clinic.

The parish currently supports this ministry through a monthly donation of $350, a monthly donation of $200 from St. Barbara’s Philoptochos, and three food drives a year: March/April, July/August, November/December. Members of St. Barbara's Philoptochos, as well as other parishioners, also volunteer at NDSM on a weekly basis.
